Markdown Studio for Jira

Frequently asked questions

Will teammates without the app see Markdown symbols?

No. Content is saved in Jira's native format, so everyone sees normal Jira formatting.

Can I switch between Markdown Studio and Jira's editor?

Yes. Both edit the same content. Anything Markdown can't show is kept as a locked chip.

Can I add images?

Not in version 1. Existing images are preserved. Markdown image syntax is saved as a link, and the editor tells you so.

Does it store or send my data anywhere?

No. It runs on Atlassian's platform, makes no external network calls and stores nothing. It reads and writes issues through Jira's API as you, with your permissions.

Can I edit other people's comments?

No. Markdown Studio only offers editing for your own comments.

What if someone else edits the description at the same time?

Before saving, Markdown Studio checks whether the description changed. If it did, you can overwrite, copy your Markdown and reload, or keep editing.

Does it work in Jira Service Management portals, Confluence or custom fields?

Not yet. Version 1 covers Jira Cloud issue descriptions and comments.

What happens if the subscription lapses?

The editor becomes read-only with a message, and you can still preview and copy Markdown. A Jira admin can renew under Apps > Manage apps.
